Ms Awa Ndow, a Lab Technician at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital EFSTH in Banjul, has blamed the former President Yahya Jammeh for misleading the HIV/Aids patients that underwent his treatment programme.
“The system is prone to manipulation,” the Lab Technician stated.
Ms Ndow who worked for the ‘Presidential Alternative Treatment’ for 4 years taking blood samples of HIV/Aids patients, told the Truth Commission on Tuesday that there was no unique numbering system for the identification of patients whose blood samples were tested at the Lab. She was not sure whether the same blood samples were tested over and over again.
“It was not normal standard procedure,” she told the Commission.
She further told the Commission that she has taken blood samples five times to a Lab in Egypt. She could not ascertained whether the blood samples of people without HIV/Aids were also included but did not dismissed it, noting that the patients discharged from the treatment were not actually cured that was kept from the public.
“We should pray to God not to ever give us a leader like him [Jammeh],” she remarked.
The Lab Technician of the ‘Presidential Alternative Treatment’ said she does not know anyone who was cured by the President’s treatment programme.
She concludes that the patients are not to be blame because they were looking for cure.
